[anime] Winter 2016

Thought I'd only skipped like a year but apparently I'm behind 6 seasons worth of lists. Will go backwards when I get the chance. For now, I wanted to get this season's list out so I can talk about Ajin.

Prince of Stride Alternative
01/05 23:00 Tuesdays
- Some kinda running parkour sports series. For whatever reason I felt compelled to check it out even if it turned out to be something I'd point and laugh at it. And while it's certainly nothing to write home about, it turned out to be more fun and interesting than I'd expected.

Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu
01/08 26:25 Fridays
- One of the two shows that interested me this season. I was intrigued by it's credentials and the serious nature of the material seemed right up my alley. It's amazing how it kept me glued to the screen for it's 2 episode length pilot and left me wanting more.

Akagami no Shirayukihime 2nd Season
01/11 24:50 Mondays
- Considering how much I loved the first season, this was really a no brainer. I've yet to delve into this much this season but it's definitely on my list of want to watch when I get the chance.

01/15 25:55 Fridays
- The other show I wanted to check out because of the dark premise. It was either gonna scare the crap out of me enough not to watch it, or keep me morbidly fascinated. I'm glad to report it's the latter. In fact, I'd like to delve more on this later.

The Others...

Ansatsu Kyoushitsu 2nd Season
01/07 25:25 Thursdays
- It's the second season and while not a huge fan, I do like Koro-sensei and the series. I'm just not as emotionally invested as I should be.

Sekkou Boys
01/08 23:00 Fridays
- Statue idols, just reading about the premise had me laughing. The insanity seemed like just the thing for me. The pilot was even more insane than I'd expected.

Rainbow Days
01/10 22:00 Sundays
- It seemed interesting at the time I caught the pilot, with some rather interesting voice work. Not sure if it's enough to keep me interested though since there is no emotional investment for me so far.

Boku Dake ga Inai Machi
01/07 24:55 Thursdays

Dimension W
01/10 22:30 Sundays

Hai to Gensou no Grimgar
01/10 24:30 Sundays

And then there's the two leftover from last season, Haikyuu and Ace of Diamond. Pretty short list these days as I don't have as much spare time as I'd like.
[Yoneda Kou] NightS - Tian Yi

[manga] priorities

To remind me to keep my list down to these.

ヨネダ コウ

Tale of the Waning Moon v04
Fujiyama Hyouta
- finally it ends

Tyrant Falls in Love v07
Takanaga Hinako
- to complete my set

The Scent of Apple Blossoms v1
The Scent of Apple Blossoms v2
The Scent of Apple Blossoms v3
Kawai Touko

and a very very tentative maybe...

Rurouni Kenshin: Restoration v1
Rurouni Kenshin: Restoration v2
Otodama v2
Blue Exorcist v10
Blue Exorcist v11
Blue Exorcist v12

Spring 2014 Anime

This season has pretty much ended for me and just realized I never got my list up for it. So here's my very short list, and not for lack of trying.

Mushishi Zoku Shou
04/04 24:00 Fridays
- No brainer here. Thank you for keeping to the original. Here's where they know not to fix anything as it's very much the same awesomeness now as it was in it's original run. Not sure why the continuation is another season away (supposedly returning in the fall), but if it makes for better quality that way then I'm all for it.

Break Blade
04/06 23:00 Sundays
- I don't really get why they had to re-release this on television if they didn't plan to add anything to it. I've only managed to see 2 episodes and it was long enough from my initial viewing of the movies that I'd forgotten enough to enjoy it again. But when I compared the two there was barely any change. I was hoping for a better conclusion than the movies or even a continuation from there. But it looks like they just re-hashed the 6 movies into 12 episodes. Was this a test run to see if a continuation or another season would be marketable?

Isshuukan Friends.
04/06 24:00 Sundays
- I confess, the title caught my eye if nothing else. One week friends? How does that work? Very well as I soon found out. Not sure if this is an actual subconscious trend for me, but I may have a romcom slash slice of life series every season. Will have to look back to be sure.

Kiniro no Corda: Blue♪Sky
04/05 25:50 Saturdays
- Checked this out and finished for the music. Not such a great storyline but the music was enough to keep me watching.

Sidonia no Kishi
04/10 25:49 Thursdays
- One of the last things I picked up and I can't remember why exactly. Could be for Ohsaka Ryouta. Or the title Knights of Sidonia. In any case, I don't consider myself a fan of mecha or space opera but this was surprisingly well done. The world building was done and paced right. Haven't been impressed or enjoyed a series as much as this in quite a while now.

The Others...

Bokura wa Minna Kawaisou
04/03 26:16 Thursdays
- Surprisingly good and funny but like D-Frag, a nice break from the serious and dark shows I tend to gravitate towards. Not sure if I'll actually finish this as I don't really miss watching it and humor can only go for so long.

04/06 17:00 Sundays
- I had my hands full with my sports series and really my heart can only take so much excitement. So I decided to sit this one out for the meantime. Looks like I can pick this up now since YowaPeda is done this season and sports seems to be lacking in the coming season.

As for the others that didn't make the cut, I won't bother listing them or bore you with the details as even I don't have the time or inclination to expound on the many ways all the other series failed for me. Admittedly I wasn't interested in anything much this season considering it's spring, but almost everything turned out to be crappy or mediocre. And I just don't have time for mediocre nowadays.

[anime] what's left as winter ends

A post that's actually timely for once. Here's what's left of my weekly dose of anime now that most of the shows I'm following have ended.

Yowamushi Pedal

Nagi no Asukara

Diamond no Ace
One Piece

And Nagi no Asukara ends this week, so I'll be left with and greet the new season with my sports anime and One Piece. Though I'm not interested in checking out what the spring season has to offer just yet. I'm sure I'll find something, I always do. But for now, all that matters is Mushishi is back. And so (surprisingly) is Break Blade.

What's notable too is I hardly deviated from my projected list last season, only dropping one (saw that one coming) and adding one (didn't see that coming). I thought D-frag would get old for me over time, as gag series are wont to do. But it has surprisingly kept me laughing despite how ridiculous it is.

[anime] watching my schedule or scheduling my watching?

And now for the point of all the seasonal spam (which I mostly spared you c/o backdated entries. EDIT: guess I didn't to twitterland, sorry about that, been awhile and forgot all about auto-tweet). A recent conversation with a friend and some chewed up books made me want to work out my watching schedule. So when in chaos, I list.

Wizard Barristers ~Benmashi Cecil

Yowamushi Pedal

Chuunibyou Demo Koi ga Shitai! Ren
Inari, KonKon, Koi Iroha.

Mikakunin de Shinkoukei
Nagi no Asukara
Gin no Saji: Silver Spoon (Season 2)

I got nothing

Log Horizon
Kuroko no Basuke (Season 2)
Diamond no Ace
One Piece

Collapse )

Overall, looks like I have room to watch 3-5 episodes a day so I can sneak in some old series re-watching if I'm a good girl. Now if only it were this easy to work on my life schedule XD

Winter 2014 Anime

This was a surprising season for a number of reasons. Not the least of which was that...

My watch list was supposed to be this short...

Mushishi -Tokubetsu-hen (Hihamukage)-
01/04 22:30 Saturday
- This doesn't really count because it's a one off special but this is when it aired so it's on this list. Also significant because anyone who's watched the first season know it's a no-brainer to watch this. I'm sure I wasn't alone when I heard of this special and was disappointed it was only one special when everyone agrees there should be a new season. Lo and behold a new season was announced at it's end! April can't come soon enough :3

Chuunibyou Demo Koi ga Shitai! Ren
01/08 24:30 Wednesdays
- I loved the first season for reasons even I can't quite fathom. It just clicked with me. I'm glad to see it still hasn't lost it's charm.

Gin no Saji: Silver Spoon (Season 2)
01/09 24:45 Thursdays
- This was actually supposed to be the only thing on my list because everything else just pales in comparison and considering how very much I loved the first season, it's good to have it back on my weekly roster.

01/09 25:00 Thursdays
- It's some silly short but when Seki Tomokazu, Fukuyama Jun, and Okiayu Ryoutarou get together and be idiotic dorks, how can one resist? XD

01/09 26:30 Thursdays
- This was a surprise on the wrong end of the spectrum. Considering I had waited and watched out for this series because it looked like an intriguing dark tale, to be met with a 3 minute short instead of a full 20 minute one was a jarring and regrettable watching experience. I don't know what the creators were thinking. Horror is just not a story to be told in short burst format. It loses a lot of its momentum and atmosphere building in such a choppy run.

And then these happened...

Wasn't really looking to add more to my watch list what with all my shows from the previous season being 2 cour and up, but then I happened to be in the mood to check stuff out despite my better judgement and so here we are.

01/05 23:30 Sundays
- Considering I had zero interest or knowledge on this, I liked everything about it from the get go, with possibly the exception of Kamiya Hiroshi's grating whiny voice (which I can overlook because it matches his dorkiness well). Dare I say it's been a while since I liked a lot of things from one single show. From characters to pacing to story line to how well it juggles humorous and dark creepy scenes, and man the soundtrack is just wonderful.

01/07 25:40 Tuesdays
- Another one I had no clue about but there was some buzz going around, which can rightly be chalked up to the fact that there are so many guys here. While no one is standing out for me so far, the thought of hearing Ohsaka Ryouta and Hatano Wataru on a regular basis certainly made me want to check this one out. I was pleasantly surprised to find it an enjoyable watch that makes me think of a cross between Darker Than Black and Durarara.

Mikakunin de Shinkoukei
01/09 21:30 Thursdays
- This was another unexpected but pleasant surprise because of the way it handled facts and situations. It stands out to me in that the lead female is not an irrational unreasonable girl who bashes someone over the head at the drop of a hat. Considering the arranged engagement circumstance she finds herself in, she's behaving reasonably well. There's also the bonus that the fiancee is a silent airhead of sorts who seems very sure of his feelings who is right up my alley. And no, it has nothing to do with the fact that he is also voiced by Hatano Wataru, mostly ;p

Wizard Barristers ~Benmashi Cecil
01/12 24:30 Sundays
- I don't know why I even bothered to check this out, but boy was I suckered in. Good storytelling and strong characterization despite the character design of the lead girl who would have turned me off any other time. But her strong sense of justice and the discrimination angle just got to me so hooked I am.

Inari, KonKon, Koi Iroha.
01/15 25:00 Wednesdays
- There was some buzz about this and some Shaft show, and seeing as me and Shaft just don't get along, I thought I'd see if there was any merit to the hype. I was ready to drop this from the start, because while Mikakunin handled everything well, this one was the exact opposite. It was such a mess and there were so many why the hell did you do that moments that I was so ready to drop it. But then brother showed up all glaring at the goddess and I just had to tune in and find out why oh why do you glare so brother dear. Needless to say my shipping senses were right on the mark and dangnabbit watching I am.

Not gonna bother listing everything else I checked out, Collapse )

And wow did that get long all of a sudden (and took me longer to write than I anticipated). I was only supposed to list these down to help me formulate my watching schedule coz I'm finding it hard to keep track of my watch list. Long time not blogging is showing in my inability to string words properly it seems. I still like to blabber on it seems. Curse you tumblr and your easy re-bloggable ways!!! OTL
